Interested in volunteering with the VITA at WWU program? Here is some brief information to get you started. We will reach out to to everyone during Fall Quarter 2026 to set up our VITA team for the 2027 tax season.

There are two ways to get involved with the VITA program.

1)Enroll in the ACCT 175 elective course (this course is not repeatable for WWU credit). The training dates and operating dates are shown in the calendars below. The green circled dates indicate volunteer training sessions. Yellow circled dates indicate VITA operating dates when we will be assisting taxpayers. Dashed yellow circles represent dates primarily for returning volunteers or limited operations. April 23, 2027, will be our end-of-season celebration date. For both training sessions and operating dates, we will generally meet at 4:15 PM, and activities may last until approximately 7:30 PM.

ACCT 175 students are required to attend both Monday and Wednesday sessions (solid yellow circles). Tuesday sessions are optional for ACCT 175 students (dashed yellow circles). All Spring quarter operating dates are optional.

2)Volunteer with the VITA program without enrolling in ACCT 175. The volunteer training dates are the same as those for ACCT 175 students; however, the operating schedules differ and are shown in the calendars below. Tuesday operating sessions (solid yellow circles) are required for non-ACCT 175 volunteers, while Monday and Wednesday operating sessions (dashed yellow circles) are optional. Volunteers who are able to attend Tuesday sessions and at least one Monday or Wednesday session will have a better opportunity to get into the VITA program.

Overall, the VITA at WWU program will include 10 training nights (during December, January, and February) and 16 operating nights (during February, March, and April) for the 2027 tax season.

We will not operate on the following dates:

  • January 18, 2027 — Martin Luther King Jr. Day

  • February 15, 2027 — Presidents’ Day

  • March 15–26, 2027 — Winter Quarter final exam period and Spring Break Week.

  • March 30, 2027 — First day of Spring Quarter

  • April 12–14, 2027 — Finishing the remaining return inventory

Two tentative workshop dates:

  • February 8, 2027 — Tax literacy workshop (Joint event with the Merriman Financial Literacy Program)

  • February 24 — International student tax day (Joint event with ISSS WWU office)
