Free Tax Help for International Students

If you were in the U.S. last year on an F-1/F-2 or J-1/J-2 visa, we would love to help you with your U.S. tax forms. You do not need to understand U.S. tax rules before you come. Just bring your documents, and we will work through everything together.

What to bring (if you have them):

  • Passport

  • I-20 (F visa) or DS-2019 (J visa)

  • U.S. customs records showing your entries and exits from the U.S. over the past three years (to help us count days accurately)

  • SSN or ITIN

  • Any tax forms you received (for example: W-2, 1042-S, 1099, 1098-T)

  • Copies of any U.S. tax returns you filed in prior years

Even if you did not work, you may still need to file IRS Form 8843, and we can help you with that.

Workshop details:

  • Date: March 9 from 4:30-7:00pm

  • Location: AW 306

  • Hosted by: VITA at WWU

No prior tax knowledge is needed- just bring your paperwork and your questions. Please note that we are not able to serve international students before this date, and we strongly encourage you to attend the March 9 workshop.
